Dear colleagues,

The CALA-GMA Chapter Annual Conference Committee is pleased to announce the call for proposals for our coming annual symposium to be held at Johns Hopkins University on Thursday June 20, 2019. The event is open to all library colleagues from US and abroad. This year’s event coincides with the 2019 ALA and CALA annual conferences. We warmly welcome colleagues from outside the Great Mid-Atlantic region and those from abroad, to come join us for a day of exchange of ideas and fellowship on the beautiful Homewood campus. The event includes up to three hours of talks and presentations, and a networking and fellowship lunch at a local restaurant.  A tour of Johns Hopkins, a prestigious research institution and top ranking university in the world, will be arranged for those interested right after the event.

The theme of our conference for this year is “Change, Challenge and Opportunity.” We invite proposals that highlight any new ideas or successful projects as a result of changes and challenges that we face in our field as well as new opportunities. A proposal can cover any aspect of librarianship, from technical services, collection development, outreach and instruction, to collaboration, leadership, technology, digital scholarship and so on.  We particularly encourage our colleagues from overseas libraries, since many of them will be coming to DC for the ALA conference, to join us and share their unique perspectives and experiences.

For those who are interested in presenting at the symposium, please send a brief proposal (no more than 500 words) to Mr. Yunshan Ye at as soon as possible, no later than May 15, 2019. You may present in either English or Chinese. We will notify whether your proposal is accepted by May 1st.  Proposals will be reviewed right after the deadline. Priority will be given to those who submit earlier. For questions, please email Mr. Yunshan Ye at

Thanks! Hope to see you at the conference!
