Is this an interim or annual report ?  Interim Report

List significant activities the committee has done since the last report:

The Committee made two calls in October 2012 for CALA’s Fall Newsletter.  The Committee, consisting of editors Priscilla Yu and Sai Deng, were very fortunate to receive many excellent submissions this past year.  We also were pleased to see so many active chapters, conferences being organized and programs with well—known international and national speakers.  We worked hard to collect and encourage members to submit photos with their activities.

Priscilla Yu collected, selected, and edited the various articles and reports, pursuing persons for photos and for more comprehensive news items.  Materials for feature articles on conferences, chapter meetings, and recognition of CALA members’ achievements were gathered and organized into categories and were edited for grammar. The Newsletter was proofread several times before sending it to CALA’s Website and Listserv. Sai Deng was responsible for the artistic aspect and layout of the Newsletter and assisted in editorial work.  She was the technical editor who did the beautiful designs and column setting for the Newsletter.  She searched and selected photos for many of the awardees.  She also chose highlights for articles and worked with column names.  The newsletter was created using Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 and then saved as a .pub file and converted to a PDF file for wider distribution.  Sai sent out the PDF Newsletter file to CALA’s Web Chair to be added to CALA’s Website.

This year we were delighted to have photos from the JCLC Conference taken by our awardee /participant and CALA Newsletter Co-Editor, Sai Deng.  Many of the photos could be accessed at CALA Facebook page.

Thanks to Esther Lee (CALA President) and Haipeng Li (Executive Director), we received fantastic reports and photos of CALA/ALA Conference Program and Awards Banquet.  In the Newsletter, we were happy to report that CALA, as a new national association member of IFLA, was represented at the IFLA WLIC 2012, held in Helsinki, Finland in August 2012.  Also included were the colorful and well thought-out  presentations from CALA members at the ALA Diversity and Outreach Fair.  We were delighted to receive notices of promotions from such high achievers and role models as Drs. Shali Zhang and Adrienne Lim.   We were pleased to receive publication releases, papers, and presentations from CALA’s Pan Junlin and Li Guoqing,  Clement Chu-Sing Lau, Bonnie Fong, and Wenxian Zhang.  We included reports from the active and hard working seven regional chapters: Greater Mid-Atlantic Chapter, Midwest Chapter, Northeast Chapter, Northern California Chapter, Southern California Chapter, Southeast Chapter, and Southwest Chapter.

List committee’s recommendations, if any, to the Board

Continue supporting and contributing to the Newsletter as a media in showing CALA’s leading presence in the global community.
