List significant activities the committee has done since last report:

Special election for Chapter Vice President/President-Elect position

A special Southwest Chapter election was held on August 24, 2012 for the vacant position of Chapter Vice President/President-Elect for the term 2012-2013.   Leping He was elected for the position and started his term as the chapter VP/PE immediately followed the election.  Mr. He is the current Associate Librarian at Arizona State University and has been actively involved in professional organizations including ALA, ALCTS, Arizona Library Association and CALA. 

CALA SW Chapter Conference Program at the 2013 Texas Library Association Annual Conference

The Southwest Chapter submitted a program proposal to the 2013 Texas Library Association (TLA) Annual Conference to be held April 23-26, 2013 in Fort Worth, TX.  The title of the program is Ethnic and Racial Diversity in Academic Librarianship.   Academic libraries have long recognized the importance and benefits of recruiting librarians from diverse backgrounds as essential to their overall mission. This program will present the historical and current state of ethnic and racial representation in academic librarianship, and resources and strategies for recruiting and retaining of librarians of color.  The program presentation is scheduled for April 26, 2013. The main speaker is Hui-Fen Chang of the Oklahoma State University Library. 

Chapter Poster Presentation for CALA 2013 Annual Program at the 2013 ALA Annual Conference in conjunction of CALA 40th Anniversary

Invited by the CALA 2013 Annual Program Committee, the Southwest Chapter will present a poster presentation at the ALA 2013 Annual Conference to commensurate CALA’s 40th Anniversary.  The poster will showcase Southwest Chapter history, achievements and outstanding members.  This poster project serves as an excellent to engage chapter members and promote our chapter to CALA and ALA communities.  The poster is scheduled to be completed by the 20th of May, 2013.  Members participating the poster project include Irene Ke, Leping He, Klairon Tang, May Lee and Hui-Fen Chang.  Poster presentation will be held at the ALA 2013 Annual Conference in Chicago June 27 – July 2, 2013.
