Is this an interim or annual report ?  Annual Report

List significant activities the committee has done since the last report:

The Committee made two calls for news items: one in April and the other in May.  The Committee, consisting of editors Priscilla Yu and Sai Deng, were very fortunate to receive many excellent submissions this past year.  We also were pleased to see so many active chapters, conferences being organized and programs with well—known international and national speakers.  We worked hard to collect and encourage members to submit photos with their activities.

Priscilla Yu collected, selected, and edited the various articles and reports, pursuing persons for photos and for more comprehensive news items.  This year we were delighted to have news items and book reviews on Dr. Hwa-Wei Lee’s accomplishments and contributions to the Chinese American community.  Materials for feature articles on conferences, chapter meetings, and recognition of CALA members’ achievements were gathered and organized into categories and were edited for grammar, spelling, and consistency.  These were saved in a Word file, and then sent to Sai for additional editing and layout design.  After the drafts were completed, Priscilla and Sai proof read them for changes/revisions before sending the Newsletter to be added to CALA’s Website and then sent on to CALA Listserv.

Sai Deng was responsible for the artistic aspect and layout of the Newsletter and assisted in editorial work.  She was the technical editor who did the design and column setting for the Newsletter.  She searched and selected photos.  She also chose highlights for articles and worked with column names.  The newsletter was created using Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 and then saved as a .pub file and converted to a PDF file for wider distribution.  Sai sent out the PDF Newsletter file to CALA’s Web co-chairs to be added to CALA’s Website.

Thanks to the hard working Min Chou, CALA President, and Haipeng Li, Executive Director,  they have contacted donors such as SAGE and Emerald to hopefully each place an ad on the next issue of the online newsletter.

List committee’s recommendations, if any, to the Board
