Miami University Middletown, an open admission regional campus of Miami University located midway between Cincinnati and Dayton in southwestern Ohio, is accepting applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Director of the Gardner-Harvey Library. The position carries the rank of Assistant Librarian.
The Gardner-Harvey Library has a strong tradition of public service and of building a collection that supports the campus’ education and research activities. The library contains approximately 50,000 volumes, subscribes to approximately 280 periodicals and 100+ electronic databases, and serves 200 faculty and 2,500 students, mostly at the undergraduate level. The library has two librarians and four support staff members, and is an active member of the OhioLINK consortium.
The campus is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, flexible team-player with a can-do attitude who is interested in reference, teaching, collection development, information technology, and administration – someone who can embrace an environment of continual improvement and change. The position reports to the Director of the Gardner-Harvey Library.

Responsibilities: assist students, faculty, staff, and the general public with information content and technology needs in-house and via phone, email, and IM; develop and teach credit and non-credit courses and workshops for, students, faculty, and staff; apply computer skills to develop library services; create and maintain strong relationships with academic departments on campus; develop and manage the reference collection; serve as back up to the circulation/interlibrary loan supervisor; assume other administrative responsibilities as required; participating and contributing to the library’s team organization. Some evenings and weekends required.
Requirements: graduate degree from an ALA accredited institution; strong commitment to quality public service; broad knowledge of library resources and reference services; ability to work independently as well as with all levels of staff and library customers; strong computer knowledge; demonstrated skills and interest in applying technology to library services; flexibility working in an environment of continual change and the ability to foster that in others; strong written and oral communication skills; initiative and ability to conceive and carry out projects on a deadline; ability to meet the University Libraries’ requirements for promotion and continuing contract (additional information available at www.lib.muohio.edu/about/larps.pdf).
Desired experience: teaching credit classes, workshops, and one-on-one sessions in an academic library setting; providing public service in an academic library; web page design and maintenance; some administrative and supervisory experience.
