The California Digital Library (CDL) at the University of California (UC) seeks an innovative, collaborative leader in the field of digital preservation technology for a new position, the Manager of Digital Preservation Technology. The Manager will be involved in strategic planning, technical design, implementation, and operations needed to meet the rapidly expanding demands of the UC community for persistent digital asset management. The Digital Preservation Group at the CDL is a dynamic group of information specialists and programmers that provide cutting edge programs, services, and technologies to ensure long-term access to the digital information that supports and results from research, teaching, and learning at UC. The groups' work encompasses the development of a Digital Preservation Repository, web archiving efforts, preservation of large-scale digitization projects, and large-scale data replication and transfer projects with other institutions.
Reporting to the Director of the Digital Preservation Program, the Manager of Digital Preservation Technology is responsible for strategic technical design, development, and maintenance of the Program's initiatives. The incumbent has lead responsibility for the supervision of the technical staff who support digital preservation services at the CDL. The incumbent will build and maintain a variety of strategic partnerships with technology centers at the UC and with the broader digital preservation and digital library community. In addition, the position will support technical innovation to meet the needs of the Program, define architecture guideline, and implement new systems within these guidelines. The incumbent is also responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the digital preservation infrastructure, and, in partnership with other CDL programs and communities, for the co-development of new infrastructure components.
