Annual report

List significant
activities the committee has done since last report:

1.         Committee reviewed more
than 40 applicants for 3 IMLS Think Global, Act Global project  and made recommendations to the project
administrative team.

2.         The Committee facilitated
two CALA 21st Century
Seminars, to be held at  Yunnan  and Shanxi
in the coming summer; called for, reviewed and selected qualified applicants
for the two projects.

3          Qi Chen, Co-Chair of the IRC
led the group of 4 librarians for DongHua Unviersity Seminar, which was a
success. During the seminar, Qi met many library directors and explored future
seminar projects with Tongji, Shanghai
Jiao Tong
University,  Jinggangshan Univ.
in Jiangxi,
Qindao Agriculture Unviersity Libraires and others. Hopefully, there will be a
seminar opportunity for CALA
members in 2011.

4.         Qi Chen, as CALA IRC Committee co-chair was also invited to
speak to librarians at Tongji and Shanghai Jiaotong University Libraries and
discussed future seminar possiblities on behalf of the IR.

5.         The Committee and Haipeng
Li, CALA executive director worked
together trying to execute a joint seminar at Shanghai Tongji and Jinggangshan University in Sept. 2010. However due to
Shanghai 2010 World Expo., the seminar was  postpone until 2011. The Committee will resume
the project when the World Expo is over.

6.         The Committee facilitated CALA delegations for upcoming Shanghai
International Library Forum and Library Society of China Annual Conference.
More than 20 CALA members will take
part in the Forum. Guoqing will be the team leader for both the Forum and the

recommendations, if any, to the Board:

The Committee recommended to modify seminar applicants screening and selection
process. It is suggested that the following questions should be added to be
answered by the applicants once board approves:

1.         Have you presented in CALA related overseas seminars? If so, please
indicate where and when and list references.

2.         What is your presentation

3.         What is the most important
thing in presenting in China?

4.         What and how do you
engage the audience when you present?

5.         Would you please list a
few things you have done in the past to make yourself a good team player?
