up-to-date on the current and future trends in bibliographic services. Train
catalogers and others in descriptive cataloging, subject analysis, and how to
use online and print cataloging tools. Serve as representative to system-wide Heads of Technical Services and Heads
of Cataloging groups. Serve on UL's Advisory Council. 

2002-2007       Head of Monograph Cataloging Section,
UCI Libraries, University of California, Irvine

Managed and reviewed the cataloging of all monographs
including books, maps, microforms, videos, films, CDs, scores, and
dissertations.  Supervised twelve library
assistants, including the Authority Control Coordinator, and secondarily
supervised one librarian, Special Collections Cataloger.  Conducted training in all aspects of
cataloging. Provided leadership in the formulation and implementation of
cataloging policy and procedures. Did original and complex cataloging of
monographs. Acted as a resource and final authority in monographic cataloging
questions.

including electronic publications, following current national standards for
bibliographic description, authority work, and subject analysis to ensure that
quality bibliographic records are created through OCLC to be included in the
local OPAC (ANTPAC) and UC system-wide (MELVYL) databases. Assisted in
maintaining and organizing the serials cataloging in-coming materials and in
communicating with bibliographers and other library staff to answer inquiries
and resolve serials bibliographic problems. Assisted in documenting local
cataloging procedures and assisted in training and reviewing staff.

Cataloging Dept. with direct supervisory responsibility for one FT cataloging
librarian, one FT paraprofessional cataloging assistant, and student assistants
when available to the Dept. I supervised the entire technical staff during the
absence of the Head of Tech. Services. I did all of the original cataloging of
monographs and all the original and copy cataloging of videos, films, CDs,
audio cassettes, CD-ROM's, maps, electronic formats including Web sites,
scores, and archival materials, plus both original and copy cataloging of
serials and government documents.  I reviewed
all original cataloging. I reviewed copy cataloging of the cataloging
assistant. I maintained list of and updated access to all electronic format
records including Web sites. I completed retrospective cataloging of statutes
and court reports. Related duties included overseeing all authority work and
being the contact person for OCLC. I gave library tours, including
bibliographic instruction on how to use the        catalog
and periodical indexes, to new students. I recommended videos and atlases to
the selection committee.

assistants plus numerous students.        Duties
included original cataloging of maps, scores, books, serials, audiocassettes,
videos, CDs, slides, and computer files, as well as for the prompt cataloging
of all reference materials. I supervised the copy cataloging of all media
items, oversaw authority control, and solved the problems of technical staff as
well as those brought to cataloging by other library departments. I supervised
the staff in the retrospective conversion of Dewey books to the LC
classification and assisted in the retrospective cataloging and classification
of periodicals.  I had weekly desk hours
on the reference desk. I was the subject bibliographer for music, geography,
urban studies, chemistry, and physics. I conducted bibliographic instruction
classes for students and faculty.
