IS THIS AN Interim or annual REPORT? __Interim _X_Annual

LIST SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES THE COMMITTEE HAS DONE SINCE LAST REPORT:

The committee has been charged with the following projects:

  1. Plan and deliver the 2010 CALA annual program
  2. Determine theme and topic  of the program
  3. Invite speakers
  4. Coordinate related issues with ALA for publicity and setup of the program
  5. Present the program on June 27, 2010

Activities and Progress since Mid-winter 2009:

  1. Made
adjustments with speakers-Gary Strong, who was originally agreed to speak,
had to withdraw because of a family situation that will prevent him from
attending ALA.  We contacted Susan Hildreth,
City Librarian of Seattle Public Library, who has agreed to speak on the
outreach programs at SPL. Another speaker, Virginia Baeckle, Director of Plainboro
Public Library, also had to cancel her ALA trip because of unexpected
situations, but she has decided to work on the project with her assistant
director, Carol Quick, and have Ms Quick present the talk on her behalf.
So we are now listing both Baeckler and Quick for the presentation.
  2. Communicated
with ALA Diversity officer Miguel to post CALA Annual program with ALA.
  3. We
have worked with each speaker to finalize their titles of presentation. We
also have asked them to submit their PPT presentations to Zhijia by June
20th so the presentations will be linked to a program PPT for
    smooth presentation.   Please see
attachment for the latest program with list of titles of the
    presentations.
  4. Promotion activities: We developed a flyer/announcement including photos of the speakers. The announcement was emailed to CALA membership, other ALA Ethnic caucuses, ALA president's office distribution, and CEAL listserv to encourage people to attend the program. Committee members also took on the responsibility to spread the words about the program.
  5. We have sent the contact information to CALA President for him to invite all speakers to CALA banquet.
  6. The committee is working on plans for the logistics to implement the program on June 27.
