Approval of CALA Family Literacy Project and the Project Budget

Special online meeting on discussion
and approval on the proposal for the CALA Family Literacy Project and the
Project Budget submitted by the CALA
Alire Initiative Taskforce.
The special online meeting
for the CALA Board of Directors was conducted from Sept. 3 through Sept. 13, 2009.
Xudong Jin, President of CALA, presided
over the meeting and presented the proposal from the CALA Alire
Initiative Taskforce. The proposal has two
sections: one is on the project planning and the other on the project budget.
Discussions were held and
comments and suggestions were received.
Hong Miao sent in her suggestions on the project activities
incorporating learning Chinese Calligraphy or Chinese Water Paint (e.g. drawing
bamboos, etc.), which will enable family members to spend time learning the
arts together and cultivate an appreciation for the Chinese culture in the
younger generation. Project Task Force Co-chair Nancy Hershoff responded and
agreed to incorporate the suggestions into the proposal.
Xudong Jin called for a
motion on Sept. 8, 2009. Manuel Urizzola made the motion, seconded by Min Chou.
Voting was conducted starting
on Sept. 8, 2009. Voting results are as follows:
Among 26 eligible voting
members, nineteen (19) Yes votes were received. Xudong declared that the Task
Force's proposal was approved by the Board of Directors on Sept. 13, 2009 and
the online special meeting was closed at 8:24 pm. Sept. 13, 2009.
