The Grinnell College Libraries invite applications for a 3-year appointment as Project Archivist at the rank of Assistant Professor. Working within our Special Collections and Archives department, the appointee will process and maintain materials in the Salisbury House Library Collection and provide assistance to researchers using the collection.  Duties include the creation and enhancement of metadata, curation of physical and online exhibits, evaluation of collection materials for preservation and/or conservation needs, leadership of digitization efforts relating to the collection, and assisting classes that incorporate Special Collections and Archives. The appointee will be an integral part of a collegial team of library faculty and will have the opportunity to define additional responsibilities depending on library-wide needs, initiatives in Special Collections and Archives, and the appointee’s interests and skills. The position offers monetary support for relocation and ongoing professional development, structured mentoring as part of a new faculty cohort, and an exceptional opportunity to manage and promote a remarkable new special collection.


Requires: a graduate degree from an ALA-accredited program completed by beginning of appointment, excellent oral and written communication skills, flexibility, comfort using library technologies, familiarity with archival processes and best practices, previous experience working in an academic library (pre-MLIS experience acceptable), self-motivation, ability to be effective and inclusive in working with a diverse campus community that makes heavy demands on library services, a preference for working in a collaborative environment, and experience with and/or interest in institutional repository platforms and digitization/digital preservation. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Salary range of $52,000 or higher, depending on qualifications.
