Recipient of the 2017 CALA Sheila Lai Research Grant

Dear CALA members,

The CALA Sheila Lai Research Grant Committee is pleased to announce Raymond Pun is the recipient of the 2017 Sheila Lai Research Grant.

The research proposal by Raymond Pun entitled “The Academic Library’s Role in International Student Success Engagement: A Comparative Study in Fresno State and the American University of Central Asia” is a comparative project aiming to explore how academic libraries in Kyrgyzstan and Fresno State support their international students through information literacy, student engagement and assessment. The research is valuable as it covers international students and information literacy skills in Central Asia where there is limited research that has been conducted.

Presentation of the Sheila Lai Research Grant will be held at the 2017 CALA Annual Awards Banquet on Sunday, June 25, 2017 in conjunction with the ALA Conference in Chicago, IL.

Raymond Pun is a first year student success librarian at Henry Madden Library, California State University Fresno in Fresno, CA. Raymond Pun is a CALA member since 2012 and has become a life member since 2016. He was an Institute of Research Design Librarianship (IRDL) Scholar, with the demonstrated research experiences in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary fields in area studies, humanities and social sciences.

Please join us in congratulating Raymond Pun and wishing him continued success in pursuit of excellence in research.
