Ms. Amy Ching-fen Tsiang is the recipient of CALA 2000 Distinguished Services Award. Ms. Tsiang is Head of East Asian Library at University of California, Los Angeles, a position she has held from 1999 to the present. She is a long-time, active member of CALA. Ms. Tsiang was the CALA California Chapter President in 1988 and the Chapter Treasurer from 1980-1986. She has made significant contributions to CALA through serving on numerous committees. She has also played a significant role in various activities within American Library Association (ALA), Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA), Council of East Asian Libraries (CEAL), Association for Asian Studies, and East Asian Academic Librarians of California (EAALC). Her dedication to the service of CEAL members is most noticeable and commendable at the national level. Ms. Tsiang is recognized for her outstanding leadership, strong managerial and organizational skills, and innovation in library and information services at the national and international levels.
Ms. Amy Tsiang is an outstanding librarian as well as a prolific author. She has published numerous articles in scholarly and professional literature, ranging from a vast variety of topics including AACR2 and LCSH, Chinese librarianship, collection and services, library automation of Chinese materials in the USA, OCLC CJK cataloging system, Pinyin conversion, and various cataloging projects. She has also spoken widely on topics related to East Asian librarianship, in the U.S. and abroad. The CALA Distinguished Service Award will be presented to Ms. Amy Tsiang at the CALA Annual Awards Banquet on July 9, 2000.
The CALA Distinguished Service Award is given annually to an outstanding librarian who demonstrates extraordinary professional achievement and leadership in the area of Chinese American librarianship.
