CALA Sponsors Two Emerging Leaders

Raymond Pun

I am very honored to have been selected for the EL program and to be sponsored by CALA for 2014. applied for the EL program because I wanted to learn more about networking with other ALA members interested in building and maintaining leadership skills.

In my EL project, I hope to work and build on social media outreach for an association. This skill and interest may benefit my current position working in New York University Shanghai Library because it is part of my responsibility to connect and engage with our patrons through social media networks: introducing students and faculty to new services, programs or collections through social media.

I hope my EL experience will strengthen my own professional goals; I also hope to use my EL experience to help build and maintain CALA's own social media platforms to engage with our members.

Suber, Samuel D.

I applied for the Emerging Leaders program because I wanted to get involved with ALA and its affiliates. I am passionate about libraries and librarians and this seemed like a great opportunity.

When I applied for the program, I highlighted my work at the Montana State Library and with the Montana Library Association Academic and Special Library Division as evidence of my leadership skills. I was also highly involved in the Special Library Association of my graduate program at the University of Illinois.  I am honored by CALA’s sponsorship to the Emerging Leaders program because I firmly believe in the merits and goals of CALA and ALA.

As an Emerging Leader participant, I hope to gain better communication skills to lead, to understand the organizational behavior of CALA and ALA, and to tackle project management. I will bring my initiative, my leadership skills, and my enthusiasm to CALA and ALA by working on committees and interest groups. I hope to promote the CALA’s goals of advancing excellence, diversity and equality of library services.  In addition, I want to acquire skills to promote collaborative programs with libraries in China and worldwide. In this process, I hope to advance communication and cooperation among diverse communities.
