Job Description:

The College of Saint Rose invites applicants for the tenure track faculty position of Serials, Interlibrary Loan and Electronic Resources Librarian, a full-time 12 month appointment reporting to the Director of Library Services.  We are seeking a capable, self-directed individual who is able to effectively oversee the management of serials, interlibrary loan and electronic resources  while also serving as a collegial member of a team of librarians who work together to deliver effective reference and instruction services.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge of library technologies and awareness of the current trend in the field of electronic resources.

Position Responsibilities:

Serials

  • Works with the library director, librarians, and faculty to select serials by title and through packages that best meet curriculum needs
  • Provides oversight of order, receipt and pay activities for serials
  • Supervises Bindery Assistant. This includes scheduling and performance evaluation.
  • Handles renewals and cancellations of print and online serial titles

Interlibrary Loan

  • Oversees the department, coordinate technological, procedural, policy, and copyright responsibilities with the Interlibrary Loan Coordinator
  • Supervises Coordinator of Interlibrary loan.
  • Analyzes statistics for patterns of use that inform library collections (both print and digital)

Electronic Resources

  • Working with the other librarians, Information Technology Services and the Library Director, coordinate electronic services for the Library, including the identification, selection, and evaluation of electronic resources
  • Provides primary oversight of the library web site
  • Develops services associated with the access and retrieval of information and with instructional initiatives

Librarian Responsibilities

  • Work regularly scheduled hours at the reference desk, including evening and weekend shifts in rotation
  • Participate in bibliographic instruction and the promotion of information literacy
  • Serve as liaison to select academic departments

As a member of The College of Saint Rose faculty, the applicant is expected to demonstrate positive and substantial evidence of competency in job performance and instruction; participate in academic advising and program assessment; engage in scholarship; and serve the College's communities through participation in Library and College-wide committees, faculty meetings, and internal and external events.

Requirements:

  • MLS, MSIS required (ALA-accredited MLS preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience managing an Interlibrary Loan department
  • Experience as reference librarian and in library instruction
  • Demonstrable experience with library technologies, including ILIAD software systems, administrator/back-end database systems, harvesting statistics, etc.
  • Experience in management of print and electronic serials
  • Experience working with diverse student population
  • Demonstrated awareness of current trends in the field of electronic resources
  • Experience in staff management, including scheduling, evaluating, and training of staff
  • Familiarity with copyright, fair use, and other intellectual property issues as these pertain to e-resources
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively and effectively both independently and as a team member
