The Research and Instruction Department coordinates library support for learning, teaching, and research within the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering. Research and Instruction Librarians provide research assistance services for faculty, students, and staff, offered within the library and virtually; partner with faculty to incorporate curriculum-based research and information literacy activities into courses; design library instruction workshops for students and faculty; and develop new models and programs to support the educational mission of the University.
The First Year Education Librarian provides leadership and coordinates all aspects of Tisch Library’s first year education programs and initiatives. First Year students primarily include students beginning undergraduate education in the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering, in addition to transfer students, visiting students participating in summer and English language programs and any other students making the transition to the university setting. Coordinates, designs, promotes, assesses, and teaches in the library instruction programs for the English Department’s First Year Writing courses and the Excollege’s Perspectives and Explorations Advising seminars. Builds relationships with other University units and programs dedicated to the academic success of first year students. Develops new approaches to integrate research skills into the first year experience. Coordinates annual Library Open House for First Year students. Provides individual research assistance by serving on the reference desk, participating in chat services and through one-on-one consultations. Serves on Tisch and ULC teams.
