CALA Updates, January and February 2009

Dear CALA members, colleagues, and friends:

Hope that you and your families had a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year.

It was wonderful seeing some of you at the ALA Midwinter Meeting, January 22 through 28, 2009, in Denver, Colorado.

The IMLS Grant Orientation Session at the Midwinter Meeting went very well, with 36 people attending. Much information on the activities of the UIUC-CALA IMLS Grant was shared at the session. The presentation PPTs from all speakers at the Orientation Session will be uploaded at shortly.

The CALA Board of Directors Meeting was also well attended in Denver, with a good quorum to enable us to vote on some important recommendations from CALA committees and taskforces. Many of these recommendations will be implemented immediately.

Additionally, CALA was very well represented at various functions and events at the Midwinter Meeting, including the Caucuses Presidents' gathering, ALA Affiliates Presidents' event, ALA New Membership Round Table's Orientation, ALA 2009 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration, and JCLC 2012 Fundraising Event. At these events and other venues, we shared the CALA and its members' accomplishments with other colleagues through the CALA Interim Report at the ALA Midwinter Meeting (January 2009). The report is now available at Sai Deng, the Co-Editor of CALA Newsletter, also took photos at the Midwinter Meeting to share with you in case you were not able to attend the Midwinter Meeting. The photos are available at

Stay tuned...
