Mr. Guoqing Li

Guoqing Li received his BA degree from Peking University in China and his MLS from Indiana University. He had worked for Indiana University Library and University of Florida Library before he came to work as the Head of Chinese and Korean Studies Collection for the OSU Libraries in 1996. Currently Guoqing is also serving as Professor, University Libraries and Adjunct Professor of the Dept. of East Asian Language & Culture, Center for East Asian Studies and Chinese Studies Institute of the Ohio State University.

Guoqing is a prolific writer, having authored numerous publications in literature and librarianship in the form of books and journal articles. Examples include chapters in edited books such as Biographical Encyclopedia of Twentieth Century World Leaders, International Dictionary of Library Histories, Cyclopedia of World Authors, Information Resource Sharing, Textbook Series for 21st Century, Calls, Sounds and Merchandise of the Peking Street Peddlers, and more than 50 articles in peer reviewed journals, and some papers in proceedings.

Guoqing also serves as editorial member of the Chinese Librarianship: an International Electronic Journal since 1996, editorial member of Zhongguo Yan Jiu (Chinese Studies) from 1997 to 1999 and a Co-Editor-in-chief of a book serial, Personal Experiences in China, since 2002.

Guoqing is a member of American Library Association, Chinese American Librarians Association, Association for Asian Studies, and Council on East Asian Libraries. He also serves as Consultant for National Library of China, under the Transfer of Knowledge Through Expatriate Nationals (TOKTEN)/Senior Technical Advisers Recruitment (STAR) project supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) (2001).

This year, Guoqing served as Co-chair of International Relations Committee, and also on several other CALA committees. He also contributed to the efforts in making the CALA 21st Century Librarian Seminar Series successful, and also served as head of the CALA-LSC delegation to the Library Society of China Annual Conference in Lanzhou in early August.

Together with Xudong and Haipeng, Guoqing helped coordinate a group of 11 CALA members for completing the book Academic Libraries in the United States for the 21st Century: Theories and Practices, for which Guoqing was an Associate editor, and the main contact for the Beijing Library Press.
