Saint Mary’s College invites applications for a Head of Library Services to direct and coordinate the services of the Cushwa-Leighton Library. The Head of Library Services oversees all library services with a broad vision toward student learning. S/he supervises and leads all staff in the daily work of the Library as well as in future directions as dictated by the College’s strategic plan. S/he works with the Chief Information Officer to maximize efficiency of operations between the Cushwa-Leighton Library and Information Technology.

The person in this position will lead the library organization in providing balanced and diverse sources, services, instruction, and student-centered spaces to the Saint Mary’s community by:

  • Supervising librarians and staff; supporting staff growth and innovation while promoting strong teamwork and collaboration across the library organization.
  • Coordinating all planning for the library, especially envisioning and supporting new initiatives for the College’s strategic plan.
  • Overseeing the development of exceptional user-centered services and collections in support of the College’s curriculum.
  • Representing the library to internal and external audiences including the College administration and state and national library organizations and consortia.
  • Directing the use and maintenance of the library building and participating in campus-wide planning for strategic library space allocation.
  • Participating as liaison to departments, including reference desk shifts, selection of resources, and instruction as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Master’s of Library Science or equivalent required along with a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible related experience as a professional librarian, preferably in an academic library.
  • Proven managerial ability with personnel, budget, and program issues.
  • Experience with current technology and information systems as they apply to the educational endeavor.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
