2004 C. C. Seetoo Conference Travel Scholarship Announcement

Application Deadline: April 15, 2004

The Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) is pleased to announce the 2004 C. C. Seetoo Conference Travel Scholarship. As a joint effort between Mr. Seetoo and CALA, the Scholarship awards an amount of US$500 each year to a library school student for his or her attendance of the CALA program at an annual ALA conference. Designed to provide an opportunity for networking and being mentored at the ALA conference, the award is available to all students of Chinese heritage who are currently enrolled in ALA-accredited master's or doctoral programs of Library and Information Science in the higher education institutions in North America. The application deadline is April 15, 2004. The award recipient will be announced in May, 2004, and the award will be presented at the CALA Annual Award Banquet during the 2004 ALA Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida.

CALA was founded in 1973. It has now six regional chapters and is a vital affiliate organization of the American Library Association. In addition to sponsoring annual programs, CALA publishes its own Newsletter, Membership Directory, and the Journal of Library and Information Science (in conjunction with the National Taiwan Normal University).

Born in Shanghai in 1916, Mr. C. C. Seetoo graduated from Shanghai University in 1939 and moved to Taiwan in 1946. A successful entrepreneur in the export business, Mr. Seetoo has traveled all over the world and made numerous friends and valuable contacts along the way. He recognizes and values the benefits of networking for people striving to become successful in the field of librarianship, and wishes to provide such an opportunity for current students of Library and Information Science by co-sponsoring this Travel Scholarship.

As a joint effort between Mr. Seetoo and CALA, an award in the amount of US$500 will be given to a student to attend the annual ALA Conference and CALA program. The Scholarship is designed to provide the award recipient mentoring and networking opportunities at the ALA conference. Students of Chinese heritage who are currently enrolled in ALA-accredited master's programs or in doctoral programs in Library and Information Science in degree-granting institutions in North America are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is March 15, 2001. The winner of the award will be announced by May 15, 2001. The award will be presented at the ALA annual conference in San Francisco.
